Sai Workshop
The Sai workshop is located in Thanjavur in South India and specialises in traditional musical instruments. Sri Sai Musicals was founded by R. Krishnamoorthy. His father, M. Raman, was a maker of Thanjavur veenas; after briefly working for a private company, Krishnamoorthy returned home to assist his father and continue the family craft.
The Ganesan’s Morsing represented in the catalogue has a thick, heavy frame, a very stiff reed and a traditionally rough finish.
The catalogue name of the instrument was associated with A. Ganesan, a noted Carnatic musician who began playing the morsing at the age of eight. He studied under T. R. Harihara Sharma, Vikku Vinayakram and T. H. Subashchandran, performed with leading Indian musicians and taught at the Jaya Ganesh Tala Vadya Vidyalaya school of rhythm. However, public sources describe Ganesan as a performer and teacher and do not confirm that he made this morsing or was connected with Sri Sai Musicals.
